PSI-I: Psychological Studies Intersex international
A professional network promoting psychological wellbeing in individuals with variations in sex characteristics.
PSI-I: Psychological Studies Intersex international is a professional network promoting psychological wellbeing in individuals with variations in sex characteristics. We work towardthis goal by providing space for the dissemination and discussion of relevant research that is conducted with, by, and about people with VSC. The PSI-I steering group is comprised of dedicated volunteers, united by a commitment to a more open society that upholds bodily autonomy and human rights for all.
PSI I Early Career Researcher Network
Since 2024, PSI-I has supported networking among early career researchers working in intersex studies. This activity has been lead by two members of the PSI-I steering group who are early career researchers themselves, Marta Prandelli and Bonnie Scranton. We organized several online workshops for early career researchers in early 2024, culminating in a day long face-to-face event coordinated with the conference Intersex Insights at Dublin City University on June 11th, 2025.
More information about events for the early career network in 2025-26 will be forthcoming shortly.
Quarterly Research Updates
Whilst our events provide a space for research dissemination and discussion, the international nature of our network and competing time commitments mean that some people can’t always get to these meetings.
Starting in 2025-26, PSI-I will publish short research updates on a quarterly basis. We aim to summarize the most recent published research that is relevant to psychosocial people with I/VSC. If who want to draw our attention to recently published research – your own or others – then please get in touch with us about it.

PSI-I maintains a mailing list that we use to let members of our network know about our upcoming events and developments in recent research. If you would like to be kept up to date about PSI-I please email us
We use the terms “intersex” and “Variations in Sex Characteristics (VSC)” on this site. But we acknowledge that this language is contested, is not preferred by all to whom it might be applied, or by all who might attend or speak at our events.
